Ammo can power supply. (Final Part 5)

Read part 1 here , part 2 here , part 3 here , part 4 here or part 5 here.

Fifth and last part of building the ammo box power supply building. Put the stuff inside and test.

First pic of the fan. I'm happy there is no BRVSHES inside.

Ammo can power supply. (Part 4)

Read part 1 here , part 2 here , part 3 here , part 4 here or part 5 here.

After the bit too long break we'll continue building the power supply. Plan vas to do the ventilation grills to make sure air flows around and keeps everything cool.

Places for holes are measured to match the heatsink and to the spot where there is very little all kind of stuff around it. I chose to put intake grills to the lower front corner so air flows over the transformeer to back and through the heatsink.

Ammo can power supply. (Part 3)

Read part 1 here , part 2 here , part 3 here , part 4 here or part 5 here.

Previously we fitted power connector and made a cradle for the PCB and heatsink. Next is to do the GUI or the front panel planning and fitting.

Gorgeus drawings to show the plans. Hole at the top is where the power button will be. Big box at the bottom will be for the for the speaker type of connector and two circles are for typical banana jack/binding post things. For the power button i drilled hole first with 8mm bit.

Then i drilled hole to correct size with step drill. In this case to 16mm size.

Fitting the power button. Button is led lighted 12V and 3A/230V from  ebay.
Seems to be fitting nicely.

Holes for banana jacks and fitting them. Banana jacks are nice gold plated ones i also found from ebay. They look and feel really nice.

For the speaker connection i only needed to make two bigger holes from where the wires go through.

On top of that i made 5 holes for buttons. Buttons inside are operated by aluminium  buttons i made with lathe. Also there is holes visible for the speaker connector.

Here is all for now. Next we make vent holes to make the air flow through.

Ammo can power supply. (Part 2)

Read part 1 here , part 2 here , part 3 here , part 4 here or part 5 here.

On part 2 of building the power supply, we will figure out how to get power in.

I had previously purchased basic computer power cable socket with place for fuse and switch. I was ment to put this on my old power supply but i never got to do that, so i decided new one will get it.

Ammo can power supply. (Part 1)

Read part 1 here , part 2 here , part 3 here , part 4 here or part 5 here.

So. I got need for variable power supply.

I searched through options from various stores, but +150€ for somewhat good about 30V 2A psu seemed expensive, so i decided to make my own. I found video from youtube about variable regulator LM317. so this was the way i wanted to go. Linear regulators are not best. They are not efficient and have minimum voltage of 1.25V but it's easy to make.

Some of the parts i got from local electronics store Partco, some i bought from Ebay and rest from scrap bin. Power supply i built into "beautiful" wooden box. But the looks were not what i was going for. I wanted something that works and gives me voltage i need without need for me to go and find suitable transformer from some box.
