Orava on päättänyt pesiä pöntössä toistamiseen tänä kesänä.

Squirrel has decided to nest in the birdhous for the second time this year. The babies are now about couple days old and not moving much, staying covered under the soft and warm stuff. Feel free to follow the growth of the babies and mother's doings on the livestream in youtube or in the embedded player.
Blog about projects, reviews and tutorials. Everything from electronics to miniature painting. More posts coming.

Pitkä tauko. Kesäksi palataan. Oravanpoikasia linnunpöntössä! // Long break. Returning for the summer. Squrrels in the birdhouse!
Pahoittelut pitkästä julkasutauosta. Elämä internetin ulkopuolella otti otteeseensa ja bloggaaminen jäi. Odotellessa on linnunpönttöön siunaantunut oravanpoikasia. Livestreami toivottavasti toimii.

Cheap and fast airbrush cleaning pot.
Orjatar saw device like this on youtube video and wanted one for her new airbrush. She asked me if i can make one and tell her how to make on too so i figured a way to do it. It's simple and basically free. You can buy one for around 15-20€ but for starters this does just well. Whole build took me around 15 minutess or less.
What you need.

Shooting: Gamo Hunter 1250 .177cal
Following previous weeks airgun introductions are followed by shooting. As targets i have No11 air rifle targets and distance about 10m. I would like to shoot also longer distances like 25-, 50-and 100-meters but sadly this is not possible because of the limitations of space. First we'll use GAMO Hunter 1250 .177cal / 4.5mm air rifle.
Haven't shot with gamo for a long time, Scope needed some adjustment.

Elämää linnunpöntössä / Life in the birdhouse.
First home seeksers have already visited and taken a look how it looks inside the birdhouse with camera but nobody has yet settled in there. For now squirrel and great tits have visited. Let's see who moves in and makes nest there. I'll be uploading videos to Youtube when visitors come and go. I have attached video of squirrels visit here.

Airgun KalibrGun Cricket Bullpup 5.5mm / .22cal
KalibrGun
Cricket Bullpup my third and newest purchased airgun. It's 5.5mm or .22 cal. It works with air pressure meaning you pump the air cylinder full and then you are ready to shoot. You can pump up to 300bar into this gun, sadly my pump is only capalbe reaching about 250bar. Air pressure in the gun is regulated meaning that all shots leave the barrel at the same speed even if the pressure varies. With one filling you can shoot 8 "magazines" empty. Size of one magazine is 14 pellets so this means over 112 shots per filling.

Air rifle Sam Yang Dragon Claw 12.7mm / .50cal
Sam YangDragon Claw. Second airgun i've purchased and my first
PCP-gun.(PCP = Pre Charged Pneumatic) Because who would always want to
shoot small .177/.22cal bullets when you can just as well shoot some
.50cal bullets. And it's true. Really half inch or 12.7mm diameter
bullets, leaving from the barrel of an air rifle over 200m/s or 680fps
doing over 300 joules of force at the barrel. This is comparable to .22
rimfire rifles, though they have smaller bullet size with same force
they have better penetration.
These Big Bore airrifles have smallish userbase since bullets are not cheap, 0.5-1€ each and the airgun itself is nearly 900€ in finland. In finland they are used mostly for plinking and shooting siluets 25, 50, 75 and 100m/yard of distance. On Youtube you can find videos of such siluet shooting. Outside finland they are used also for hunting for example wild boars. In finland you need a permission to purchase / own the airgun.

Air Rifle GAMO Hunter 1250 4.5mm / .177cal
Gamo hunter 1250 or hunter by short is my first self purchased airgun. It's one of the most powerfull spring powered air rifles on the market. 4.5mm(or .177cal) bullet leaves the barrel at 1250fps and it will break the sound barrier while fyling causing loud bang even after the suppressor in front of the barrel. With hevier bullet you can reduce and even get rid of the sonic boom.
At the front of the barrel with GAMO PRO MAGNUM Penetration-pellets (0.49g / 7.56gr) rifle generates 35.57joules of force. With lighter pellets like for example GAMO LETHAL pellets you get lower force but better penetration.

HD Birdhouse.
Spring comes. And birds and in finland we got this challenge to make one milion birdsnes during 2016 so i decided to make my own.
I had previously bought 720P ip-camera for this purpose, so i decided now it's good time for this. Birdhouse is made for bigger bird or for a squirel. Inner dimensions are 20x20x50cm. There is chance that small owl, jackdaw or squirel will live in it.
I started by getting some 22x150mm lumber from K-rauta.

Metal rose.
What does Do It Yourself man give to his better half as present? Flowers? Sure but not any ordinary but something you can see how much effort was put into it. Something that never dries or dies even if you forget to water it. Whats that kind of magic flower? It's a rose made of metal.

Alloy wheel painting with rubber paint.
My car wheels were "a bit" scratched from the last owner and required some renovation, so when i noticed that Biltema has brought rubber paint to their selections for 13€ a can i thought its a good time to test the paint and make wheels look bit better. Also some rat stole my center caps from my front yard some time ago i thought dark color might also hide the shape a bit.

Ammo can power supply. (Part 4)
Read part 1 here , part 2 here , part 3 here , part 4 here or part 5 here.
After the bit too long break we'll continue building the power supply. Plan vas to do the ventilation grills to make sure air flows around and keeps everything cool.
Places for holes are measured to match the heatsink and to the spot where there is very little all kind of stuff around it. I chose to put intake grills to the lower front corner so air flows over the transformeer to back and through the heatsink.

Yhtäkkiä hiljaisuus. / Suddenly silent.
Kohta on lomat lusittu ja paluu arkeen edessä. Tämä tietää myös uusia blogitekstejä. Pahoittelut hiljaisuudesta ja tiedoituksen puutteesta. Muutos parempaan on edessä.
Soon the vacation has been kept and return to the ordinary life is in the head. This also means new blogposts. Sorry about the sudden quietness and lack of information. Change to the better is ahead.

Ammo can power supply. (Part 3)
Read part 1 here , part 2 here , part 3 here , part 4 here or part 5 here.
Previously we fitted power connector and made a cradle for the PCB and heatsink. Next is to do the GUI or the front panel planning and fitting.
Gorgeus drawings to show the plans. Hole at the top is where the power button will be. Big box at the bottom will be for the for the speaker type of connector and two circles are for typical banana jack/binding post things. For the power button i drilled hole first with 8mm bit.
Then i drilled hole to correct size with step drill. In this case to 16mm size.
Fitting the power button. Button is led lighted 12V and 3A/230V from ebay.
Seems to be fitting nicely.
Holes for banana jacks and fitting them. Banana jacks are nice gold plated ones i also found from ebay. They look and feel really nice.
For the speaker connection i only needed to make two bigger holes from where the wires go through.
On top of that i made 5 holes for buttons. Buttons inside are operated by aluminium buttons i made with lathe. Also there is holes visible for the speaker connector.
Here is all for now. Next we make vent holes to make the air flow through.

Take use of the wasted space. Hidden drawer behind components.
I have 3 drawers and 2 cabinets on my worktable. One of the cabinets housed my Rubbermaid sorting box tower for components. To make sure that the whole thing wont come out and fall around on the floor I had attached it to the sides of the cabinet with screws. This is not very optimal since the cabinet is 60cm deep and the drawer tower only 20cm so there is 40cm of wasted space behind. I got plan to take use of this wasted space.

Read part 1 here , part 2 here , part 3 here , part 4 here or part 5 here.
On part 2 of building the power supply, we will figure out how to get power in.
I had previously purchased basic computer power cable socket with place for fuse and switch. I was ment to put this on my old power supply but i never got to do that, so i decided new one will get it.

New toy. PARKSIDE "dremel"
Went to Lidl yesterday and ran into this PARKSIDE version of Dremel multitool. First i was wondering that what kind of overpriced thing that is going to be before i looked up. 25€. First i was sure i saw price wrong or price for other product, but it was correct. 25€ for the tool, battery, charger and box of accessories. Not a bad price. For example only the battery for Dremel multitool costs 59€ at local store. Both of them have nearly same capacity 1300mAh and 1500mAh. (dremel also has 1300mAh 10.8V batteries for sale.) So only because of the battery the price is cheap as heck. I wonder how much profit does Lidl make with these.
So i had to get it. Good to have something Dremellike inside too when you need to drill holes to PCBs.

Angel
I got the Sylphe from Reaper Bones and I decided to make a nice angel with an awesome base for my sister.
She has a really good magic the gathering deck based on angel so i thought it would be a nice present for her.
I started with making a wire tree and Jokke helped me. The Tutorial for the wire tree can be found here:
